September 17: Unity Banquet in Wilmington
Wonderful evening at the Hannah Block Historic RSO Community Arts Center. Event Keynote Speaker: NC Civil Rights Attorney, Al McSurely. The evening honored former Rep. Sandra Spaulding-Hughes for her service. Pamela Campbell-Dereef provided special entertainment with her amazing singing voice.
June 27: Young Democrats Summer Meeting in Wilmington
Mayor Bill Saffo gave the welcome on behalf of the city. County Chairman Jim Morgan and 1st Vice-Chair Deborah Maxwell provided brief remarks. The highlight of the meeting were speeches from U.S. Senate prospects Cal Cunningham and Kenneth Lewis.
June 15: Sheriff Causey Receives Order of the Long Leaf Pine
Sheriff Sid Causey received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine at his retirement ceremony. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina
May 16: Seventh Congressional District Convention
New Hanover County won First Place for the most Democrats in attendance at District Convention at Riegelwood. Congressman Mike McIntyre delivered the key note address.
May 2: Jefferson-Jackson Dinner
The Dinner was held at the Durham Marriott. Virginia Governor/ DNC Chairman Tim Kaine delivered the key note. Senator Hagan and Governor Perdue also spoke. District Chairman Melvin Williams was named Chairman of the Year.
April 25: 2009 Convention of the New Hanover County Democratic Party
Party officers and State Executive Committee Members were elected to two-year terms. The key note address was delivered by Benjamin R. David, District Attorney for the Fifth Judicial District. David spoke eloquently on the importance of servant leadership in the community.
April 20: Special Meeting to Vote on Recommendation for Sheriff
The Executive Committee voted to recommend Chief Deputy Ed McMahon for appointment to the Office of New Hanover County Sheriff.
